"Butcher" Dave Best-GBNF

January 6, 1965 - July 31, 2010

DAVID A. BEST January 06, 1965 - July 31, 2010 Some may have known David A. Best as "Dave The Butcher", some knew him as the man who bled green and orange Miami Dolphin pride, but everyone knew him as a great friend. David Best's legacy isn't his 19 years sober, his stint as a war vet or his love for fishing. His legacy that he leaves behind is the love and lives he has touched on his life's journey. David is survived by his loving wife, Marcia Best; son, PFC Chandler A. Shiner; father, Dr. Martin Best; brother, Alexander Best; father/mother-in-law, George and Nancy Zapf and brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Donna Zapf. They say you can tell the worth of a man not by the amount of things he has but, the amount of friends he has. David Best is a man who was a friend to many. Who tirelessly worked to help others and be the best person he possibly could be. He left his mark on the heart of many, with countless stories of joy and laughter. He was witty, clever and though he had warrior's heart, it was made solid of gold. He will always be remembered as not just a husband, a father, a solider, but a friend. The years he and his beautiful wife, Marcia spent together he always mentioned as the greatest moments of his life. David will always be known as a fighter, diagnosed with cancer a few years ago he beat it. Then when it returned he was told he only had a few months, months that surely were full of the love of his wife and family, he extended to two years. David got to see his stepson, that he loved with all his heart, grow from a boy to a full man. As Chandler graduated high school, chased his dreams and enter the military with high honors giving him high rankings as he graduated to become PFC Chandler A. Shiner. Yet as the story always goes all good things must come to an end. And while this chapter of his life is over, the story and the spirit of Dave lives on through the countless of lives he's touched like ripples in the water. In closing, if you wish to keep Dave's memory fully alive well it's simple. Be there for your friends and family in their time of need. Live your life to the fullest and never give up hope. Always be a man or woman of your word. These are some of the principles that David lived by, that is his legacy. So to David A. "The Butcher" Best, may you rest in peace and the work you did live on. We love you and will miss you. You may be physically gone but you will never be forgotten. A Memorial Service will be held 7:00 PM, Friday, August 6 at Del Lago Chapel, 131 S. Lakeside Dr., Lake Worth. Friends may call from 6:00 PM until service time. A gathering of friends will be held at the Easy Does it Club on Saturday, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to PFC Chandler A. Shiner, at any Bank of America branch. Arrangements have been entrusted to All County Funeral Home & Crematory, Lake Worth. To express condolences and/or make donations Visit PalmBeachPost.com/obituaries
